Language Movement veteran Samela Rahman died of Covid-19 at the Nilphamari General Hospital on Thursday morning. She was 83.
Sumon Rahman, the youngest son of the deceased, said that his mother was also suffering from various old-age complications.
She was buried at the central graveyard in the district town after her namaz-e-janaza after Asr prayers.
She is survived by three sons and four daughters.
Nilphamari 2 constituency lawmaker Asaduzzaman Noor expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Samela Rahman.
District Council Chairman Muktijoddha Joynal Abedin, District Awami League President Dewan Kamal Ahmed and General Secretary Mamtazul Haque also mourned the death of Samela.
Samela Rahman was a ninth-grade student of Nilphamari Government Girls High School in 1952. At that time, ignoring all the family and social obstacles, she took to the streets of Nilphamari took part in all the programs during the language movement including processions and meetings.
