Shurokkha masks: Hit or miss?

Shurokka Facemask put to test

Update : 14 Nov 2020, 01:34 PM

The on-going pandemic has established the vitality of wearing a mask whenever we head out, reinforced by the authorities worldwide. Subsequently, we witnessed a remarkable rise in the availability of masks in general, with a large portion of the population opting for more unique masks introduced by fashion houses and indie stores. Having so many options available, however, brings to question: How effective are these, really? We put the Shurokka Facemask to test.

What we know about it:

The new Shurokkha High-Performance Reusable Facemask has been designed for the general public involved in medium-risk daily activities, and can be worn for longer stretches of time. These masks are one of the many tools Lidia May Ltd, an ethical-luxury fashion brand, has dedicated itself to designing since the onset of the pandemic. After three months of research and experimenting with different designs, the current, 3D design came to be.

The three important features that were emphasized on while designing the Shurokkha Facemask are good science, comfort, and sustainability. For an effective filtration system, the three layered mask contains a polypropylene layer on the outside, a high filtration mixed fibres middle layer, and 100% carded interlock cotton inner layer. Along with that, the comfort of the general public was taken into consideration; the 3D design enables the mask to sit well on the face. The elastic bands are adjustable, too. Moreover, the Shurokkha masks are made of recyclable materials, making them reusable for upto 2 months each. The Shurokkha mask offers greater protection at an affordable price.

Our verdict:

Oftentimes, the filter on the mask makes it difficult for air to pass through it, too -- perhaps why so many people can be seen on the streets with their masks below their noses. The Shurokkha mask, however, is incredibly breathable, making wearing it throughout the day much less taxing. The inner material is not aggressive on the skin, hence does not cause any irritation on the skin afterwards. The adjustable elastic bands are very handy, too. The 3D design -- although a little strange on the face at first -- ensures the mask sits on the face comfortably and seamlessly. Unlike many other masks available in the market now, the Shurokkha mask's quality did not deteriorate significantly after the wash. A reusable, environment friendly, comfortable, and effective mask at just Tk150, the Shurokkha masks could be your reliable option for your safety.
