Liberation War organizer Mozammel Haque passes away

Mozammel Haque’s namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Sherpur Government College ground in the district town around 2:30pm on Sunday

Md Mozammel Haque, a Liberation War organizer, has passed away at his home in Bagrakhasa at the age of 81.

He breathed his last around 8pm Saturday night. He had been suffering from various illnesses, reports UNB.

During the Liberation War, he led the Chhatra League unit of Sherpur thana unit. He was also a member of the Sarbadalia Chhatra Sangram Parishad.

Mozammel served as general secretary of Awami League’s Sherpur unit from 1986 to 2007.

In 1975, he was jailed for protesting against the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He served 17 months.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed profound grief at his passing. She had donated Tk 21 lakh for Mozammel Haque’s medical treatment last year.

Mozammel Haque’s namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Sherpur Government College ground in the district town around 2:30pm on Sunday, according to his family sources.

He will be laid to rest at the town’s Chapatali municipal graveyard.
