Zhang Zuo, the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh and Zahid Ahsan Russell, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on youth and sports ministry inaugurated the event this year.
As happens each year, the sky was full of kites of various shapes and sizes till sundown throughout the festival. There was an energetic lion dance performance by a group from Old Dhaka. As the sun sank into the sea, the participating crowd set off ‘fanush’ (sky lanterns). Fireworks was the show-stopper, the five minutes-long incessant firing turned the dark sky into a vibrant landscape.
