A number of much-needed zebra crossings and speed breakers will be established at different areas within the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in the shortest time possible, Chief Executive Officer of DNCC Md Mesbahul Islam said.
He made the statement Wednesday at a program held to set up a zebra crossing on the Airport Road in front of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College.
Mesbahul Islam said: “The initiative has been taken so that pedestrians can safely cross the roads and accidents can be reduced. We will coordinate with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Traffic Division to establish the zebra crossings and speed breakers.”
He also said that the existing speed breakers and zebra crossings that are of no use will be removed. Workers will complete the tasks at night to avoid traffic congestion.
Panel mayors of Dhaka North City Corporation Mostafa Jamal and Aleya Sarker Daisy, Principal Engineer Brigadier General Md Saeed Anwarul Islam and Shahid Ramiz Uddin School and College Principal Noor Nahar Yasmin, teachers and students were also present during the program.
