The Bangladesh Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and Spanish consulting body TYPSA have signed a contract for the construction of a subway system in Dhaka.
Bridges department Chief Engineer Kabir Ahmed and TYPSA Founding Director Antonio Rodiguez signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations, at a Dhaka hotel on Thursday. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was in chair.
TYPSA, a leading consulting engineering group in transport, urban development, and renewable energy, will examine four possible routes for the subway: Tongi to Narayanganj (Link road), Aminbazar to Sayedabad, Gabtali to Sayedabad, and Rampura to Sadarghat.
The first phase of construction for the subway will have an estimated cost of $5.62 billion.
Bridges department Senior Secretary Khandakar Anwarul Islam was also present at the signing ceremony.
