The nominees for the 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Thursday by “The Handmaid’s Tale” actor Samira Wiley and “The Blacklist” actor Ryan Eggold. The list of nominees was full of surprises with streaming network Netflix leading all nominations.
The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 17, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and the “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che will host the ceremony.
This is a new era for Emmy Awards because this is the first time in 18 years that HBO has not had the most nominations. Netflix dominates with 112 nominees in the bag.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones” tops all the shows with 22 nominations, followed by “Saturday Night Live” (NBC) and “Westworld” (HBO) with 21 nominations each and Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” with 20.
