With the Fifa World Cup drawing ever closer, fans around are feeling the anticipation, counting down the days to kick-off on June 15.
Bangladesh has traditionally been dominated by Brazil and Argentina fans, and having supporters of each team at each others’ throats is a common occurrence. However, the situation this year has been slightly different.
Brazil fans have been vocal as ever, buoyed by the confidence of five world cup titles under their belt and news that talisman Neymar will be fit for footballs biggest event.

However, every social media post where a Brazil fan openly proclaims their confidence tends to end with the same exact dampener, courtesy of Germany.

Meanwhile, Argentina fans have been a bit more circumspect with their posts and quieter than usual, although when you have a player of Lionel Messi’s calibre there is always hope.
Argentina fans only truly came out in force on Wednesday, June 6, in support of their team’s mainstay’s call to boycott a friendly against Israel for political reasons.
Whenever Lionel Messi enters the conversation, proponents of his arch nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo also tend to have their say, and hence Portugal fans have also not been entirely afraid to harbour dreams of a World Cup title, especially after the European side’s triumph in the last European cup.

Fans of various other teams also took to social media to express their support, but there were also many who lamented the failure of World Cup staples Italy and Netherlands to qualify.

Furthermore, as always, many were angered by the lack of selection of some of their favourite players in their respective world cup squads, with supporters of Germany’s Mario Gotze and Belgium’s Raja Nainggolan chief among them.

All in all, the event in Russia promises to be one the great sporting spectacles of our time, and never before has there been so much indecision over who may be the winner.
