HM Alvee wins US hackathon with EnigmaKeep, an offline password manager

Bangladeshi tech innovator HM Alvee Hasan, a cybersecurity student studying in the United States, has won a US university-level hackathon for developing EnigmaKeep, an offline password manager designed to put user privacy first. The project has gained attention for its clean design, strong encryption, and open-source structure, offering users a safer and more transparent way to protect their digital data.

Redefining password security

EnigmaKeep was developed while Alvee was pursuing his degree in IT-Cybersecurity and Network Administration. His main goal was to create a secure system that doesn’t rely on the cloud. Unlike popular password managers such as Bitwarden or LastPass, EnigmaKeep stores all credentials directly on the user’s device, keeping them safe from online breaches and server leaks.

The software uses AES-256-GCM encryption and PBKDF2 key derivation with 600,000 iterations, providing the same level of protection used by major financial institutions. It also includes biometric authentication for fingerprint and Face ID login and functions as a Progressive Web App (PWA), making it accessible on any device without needing an internet connection.

“I wanted to create something that gives people complete control over their data,” said HM Alvee. “Most password managers depend on cloud storage, but privacy should never require trust in a third party.”

He added, “EnigmaKeep is built to be fully offline so users can have total confidence that their information stays only with them. That’s what true digital privacy means.”

Top features of EnigmaKeep

  • Password Manager: Store unlimited passwords with AES-256 encryption
  • 2FA Authenticator: Built-in TOTP codes for two-factor authentication
  • Secure Notes: Encrypted storage for personal or business information
  • Biometric Login: Unlock with fingerprint or Face ID
  • PWA Support: Works offline on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices
  • Import/Export: Easily transfer data from 1Password, LastPass, Bitwarden, or Chrome

These features make EnigmaKeep a powerful option for individuals and professionals who value security but prefer not to depend on cloud services or paid subscriptions.

Open source and free for everyone

EnigmaKeep is completely free and open-source, released under the MIT License on GitHub. This transparency allows developers around the world to inspect, audit, and contribute to the project.

“Cybersecurity should be available to everyone,” said Alvee. “You shouldn’t have to pay a company or rely on a server to keep your passwords safe. Open-source projects like EnigmaKeep prove that privacy and accessibility can go hand in hand.”

A Bangladeshi voice in global cybersecurity

Alvee’s success highlights the growing influence of Bangladeshi innovators in international technology. His work on EnigmaKeep reflects a growing movement toward privacy-first software, at a time when data protection has become a global concern.

Professors and peers in the US have praised the project for its ethical approach and technical quality, describing it as an example of how cybersecurity tools should be built — secure, transparent, and user-controlled.

“Winning the hackathon was an incredible moment,” Alvee said. “It showed that meaningful innovation can come from anywhere, and that Bangladeshi students can compete globally in technology and cybersecurity.”
