The prestigious Gemcon Literary Award was handed over to three winners on Thursday.
Three individuals received the awards at a Dhaka Lit Fest session organized at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad auditorium of Bangla Academy.
Kazi Nabil Ahmed, vice chairman of Gemcon Group, announced the names of the winners.
Poet Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury bagged Gemcon Literary Award 2022 for his poetry book “Stobdhota Jara Shikhe Geche”. He received Tk5,00,000, a crest and a certificate.
Md Sajedul Islam won Gemcon Young Literature Award 2022 for “Sonar Nao Poboner Boitha”. He received Tk1,00,000, a crest and a certificate.
Meanwhile, Sakib Mahmud got Gemcon Young Poetry Award 2022 for his poem “Ghumiye Thaka Bari”. He received Tk50,000, a crest and a certificate each.
The annual award is one of Bangladesh's biggest literary awards for creative works in Bengali and is given to encourage and recognise creative writers working in the Bengali language.
Introduced by Gemcon Group in 2000, the previous award recipients include eminent writers Syed Shamsul Haq, Shahidul Zaheer, Selim Al Deen, Hasan Azizul Haque, Mamun Hussain, Ahmad Mostafa Kamal and others.
