British American Tobacco’s EPS rises by 69% despite Covid-19 pandemic

Publicly traded cigarette company British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Ltd’s (BATB) earnings per share (EPS) has gone up by 69% in Q2 (April-June20) of this year compared to the same period of previous year.

The EPS increased due to higher profit after tax compared to last year driven by high sales volume and deferral of major initiatives to second half of 2020, due to Covid-19 along with lower interest expenses, according to officials concerned.

According to an official disclosure posted on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) website on Thursday, BATB’s EPS was Tk16.48 for April-June of 2020 as against Tk9.73 for the same period in 2019.

In the first six months of 2020, the company's EPS stood at Tk33.35, as against Tk21.17 for the same period of last year.

The company’s net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk192.20 on June 30, 2020.

The BATB’s paid-up capital is Tk180 crore. Each share price of the company closed at Tk907.60 on Wednesday.

BATB was listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in 1977. The food sector company belongs to the “A” category.

The company disbursed 400% cash dividend for the year ending on December 31, 2019. It disbursed 500% cash and 200% stock dividend for the year ending on December 31, 2018.
