Bangladesh has achieved a GDP growth of 6.01% in the current 2013-14 fiscal despite political unrest and destructive activities of BNP-Jamaat clique, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury has said.
The minister said this while talking part in a general discussion on the supplementary budget for 2013-14 in the House.
“The growth could have been exceeded even seven percent if such a situation was not created by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami during the period," Matia said.
In this connection, she said the 2013-14 fiscal year was unstable as the BNP-Jamaat elements created an anarchic situation across the country by calling 45 days hartal in six months.
Matia said the then opposition BNP has carried out destructive activities throughout the country by refraining from contesting the last general election in line with the constitutional obligation and ignoring court verdict.
"Despite all odds, Bangladesh has been able to achieve tremendous successes in various important sectors due to firm and pragmatic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," she added.
