The wage board formed for the readymade garment workers has finally asked the RMG workers’ leaders and the factory owners to provide it a complete list of the RMG workers who are not yet included in the new wage structure.
‘’As soon as we will get such a list, we will sit again with the responsible stakeholders to find a way to resolve the crisis,’’ Md. A.K Fazlul Haque, president of the wage board, told reporters yesterday, emerging from a meeting held at his office at Tokhana Road in Dhaka.
The meeting was convened following an allegation that some positions in RMG units are not yet incorporated in the new wage structure and that’s why they are being deprived of getting the new wages as per the wage board.
Regarding the next meeting, he said it would to be held within a week or two and this issue would be hopefully settled after having consultations among all the stakeholders at the upcoming meeting.
As per the wage board gazette, if any post is created in any RMG units, which is not yet included in the wage board, it could be in cooperated in the new wage structure.
The positions, which were mistakenly remained outside of the structure, could be replaced in the wage structure and those workers would be able to enjoy the all the facilities as per wage board decision, said Arshad Jamal Dipu, a representative of the owners’ to the wage board.
He also said no worker would get below the minimum level of wage and all the confusions would be over very soon.
A good number of positions belong to washing, dyeing and printing section of the RMG units is yet to be included in the wage structure, which created a crisis in disbursing wages of those workers, said Sirajul Islam Rony, a workers’ representative to the wage board.
On November 21 last year, the wage board had announced Tk5,300 as minimum wage with a basic of Tk3,000 for entry-level garment workers.
As per the government instruction, the factory owners already started implementing the new wage structure from December 1.
