NRBs can borrow 75% of total house building cost

Update : 24 Jul 2017, 01:21 AM
Bangladesh Bank in a new directive has said the Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) will be allowed to borrow up to 75% of total cost for house building, which was earlier 50%. “The NRBs can be eligible for housing loans at a maximum debt equity ratio of 75:25 instead of the existing 50:50. Other instructions in this context shall remain unchanged,” said the central bank in the directive issued on Sunday. The directive was sent out to all managing directors and chief executive officers of all the authorised dealer (AD) banks of foreign exchange. As per the previous directive issued on December 6, 2015, the NRBs were entitled to 50% of total cost as housing loan. “The expatriates are financially capable of repaying debts as they send home large sums of money. This is a good move to increase the ceiling of housing loan for the NRBs,” an official at Bangladesh Bank told the Dhaka Tribune “The move might help to revive the real-estate sector of the country which is in the doldrums for a long time,” the official said.
