Income Tax Fair begins

Update : 15 Sep 2013, 06:16 PM

Aiming to aware people about the importance of tax and make them familiar with E-TIN, the Income Tax Fair 2013 begins today at the capitals Officers Club premises.

The National Board of Revenue is expecting to collect Tk11bn revenue from the weeklong income tax fair, which will be continued till September 22.

“The fair would help widen the tax net by providing tax education and create awareness as well as ensure increased revenue collection,” NBR Chairman Ghulam Hossain told a recent press briefing, marking the occasion.

The nationwide fair will be held for two days simultaneously in all the 54 district headquarters for the first time while the seven divisional headquarters will observe it for seven days. One day mobile fair will be held at the three hilly districts.

The NBR chairman also expected that the fair would help face the challenge of achieving the revenue target of Tk1.36tn for the FY2013-14. The theme of the income tax fair 2013 will be “Internet TIN Registration Absolutely Easy.”

Finance Minister AMA Muhith will inaugurate the fair in the morning. There will be booths of Sonali Bank and Janata Bank to facilitate tax-related transactions and some booths will also be set up to facilitate visitors on registration of E-TIN service and for facilitating filing their tax returns.

“This year our main target is to aware and educate people about the need of Taxpayers Identification Number. The dedicated booths will support the existing taxpayers and interested ones to pay taxes through E-TIN,” an NBR official said.

The fair will remain open for visitors from 10am to 6pm. The visitors would be offered to get the electronic TIN registration instantly.

Last year, the revenue body collected Tk8.31bn in income tax from the fair. A total of 346,867 people received services from the fair and the board had received tax returns from 97,867 taxpayers. Fresh TIN was issued to 16,287 people.
