National Income Tax Day 2013 was observed in Barisal city Sunday, aimed at creating awareness about income tax payment and encouraging people to pay tax regularly.
To mark the day, elaborate programmes, including a rally, exchange of views, distribution of crests and certificates among ‘highest and long term’ taxpayers of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) and six districts of the division, were arranged by Barisal regional tax office at the Barisal Circuit House.
Businessman Kazi Shafikul Islam has become the top tax payer, followed by former BCC Mayor city AL president Shawkat Hossain Hiron, managing director Khan Sons Group Mojibor Rahman Khan in the Barisal income-tax region this year. Hiron was the highest tax-payer in 2012.
In Barisal district, Golam Kabir Shikdar of Bakerganj, Ashikul Islam Azad of Banari Para, Abul Kasem Pintu of Mehendiganj achieved first, second and third highest tax payers respectively.
State minister for religious affairs Shahjahan Mia handed over certificates, crests and awards to the top tax payers.
Proshanta Kumar Kar, commissioner taxes of Barisal income tax region, presided over the programme.
Among others, member board of revenue Bangladesh Md Nasiruddin, Barisal divisional commissioner Nurul Amin and president Barisal Chamber of Commerce and Industries Saidur Rahman Rintu were present at the event.
Tax payers gave importance on creating hassle and harassment free tax payment environment further.
They also put forward a set of demands, including setting up an advisory desk in the tax office of the region, introduction of awarding VIP status among the regional long term and highest tax payers, arranging frequent motivation progarmmes for tax payment and opening tax office in major upazila level of the district.
A weeklong income-tax fair that will start from today and end September 22 has also been arranged at Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city.
