Update : 09 Jun 2022, 05:52 PM

The government has proposed lifting duty-free facilities on the raw materials used in the manufacture of Covid-19 essentials such as testing kits, hand sanitizers, masks and PPEs.

During his speech at the budget session on Thursday, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said: “

In order to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, a special notification was issued saying that tax will not be imposed on the raw materials for Covid testing kits, special masks, hand sanitizers, masks PPEs and RT-PCR kits.

“However, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Covid-19 situation is now under control,” he added.

Hence it is being proposed that the tax-free facilities on the raw materials be lifted after June 30.

After the facilities are lifted the prices of the Covid essentials are likely to go up.
