The general point-to-point inflation in the country slightly eased to 5.51% in July down from 5.54% in June although prices of different food items including rice increased.
“The general point-to-point inflation rate slightly came down at 5.51% in July and it was 5.54%in June,” said Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday while releasing the monthly consumer price index (CPI) after an Ecnec meeting, reports UNB.
He said the general point-to-point inflation rate in July 2017 was 5.57%.
According to data from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the point-to-point food inflation slightly increased to 6.18% in July from 5.98% in June as prices of rice, fish, meat, egg, spices and fruits went up.
But the BBS data showed that the point-to-point non-food inflation rate declined to 4.49% in July 2018 down from 4.87% in June, 2018.
The general inflation rate in the urban areas declined to 6.37% in July from 6.39% in June.
In rural areas, food inflation slightly came down at 5.04% in July from 5.07% in the previous month.
The point to point national wage index witnessed an increasing trend with 6.49% in July as opposed to the 6.31% in June.
