Bangladesh and Qatar have initiated a move to sign an agreement with a view to further promote and encourage bilateral economic, commercial and technical cooperation.
The first round of negotiation on the draft agreement is likely to be held in the third week of April or the first week of May in Qatari capital Doha.
Talking to the UNB, an official at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) said tthe areas of cooperation featured in the draft agreement are economic, commercial and technical areas, bilateral trade and investment, financial services, air services, energy, ICT, transport, construction, agriculture, industry, culture, sports, tourism promotion, and any other areas as may be mutually agreed upon by both the parties.
The draft instrument will also promote the participation of the business sectors of the respective parties.
According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh exports to Qatar in the last fiscal year totaled only $13.55m against the huge import of $ 154.15 million.
