Hartal strikes Bheramara land port

Update : 11 Nov 2013, 06:42 AM

Four handmade bombs were exploded at the India-bordering Bheramara land port in Satkhira on Monday, the second day of the opposition’s 84-hour.

Sources said the attack occurred at around 9am.

The halt in activity, due to the fear of hartal, negatively affected the land port according to the port’s C&F agents’ Association Secretary Ahidul Islam.

Meanwhile shutdown supporters marched in procession through several areas of the district.

Witnesses told of pro-hartal processions in the town’s New Market area and the Kadamtala Bazar area of the Satkhira-Jessore road.

Long route and inter-district buses were held at Satkhira bus terminal.

Satkhira Sadar police Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque said no untoward incidents took place in the town until noon.

Additional police, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), and paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed throughout key points in town.
