Another 72 tons of ilish leaves for India through Benapole

  • Total 600 tons 440kg ilish exported
  • On the occasion of Durga Puja
  • 79 companies will finish exporting by Oct 30

Another 72,000kg (72 tons) of ilish was exported to India through the Benapole land port in Jessore on Thursday evening.

Abdul Jalil, director of Benapole Land Port, confirmed the information on Friday.

With this, a total of 600 tons and 440kg of ilish have been exported to India through the land port.

This year, on the occasion of Durga Puja, 3,950 tons of ilish have been allowed to be exported.

Reportedly, 77 tons and 100kg were shipped through Benapole land port on September 21, 40 tons and 100kg on September 23, 56 tons and 500kg on September 25, 48 tons and 980kg on September 26, 31 tons and 760kg on September 27, 91 tons and 500kg on September 30, 98 tons and 600kg on October 3, 83 tons and 900kg on October 4 and 72 tons of ilish were exported to India on October 5.

India's ilish importer Bhajan Kumar Das said: “Bangladeshi ilish will arrive in Kolkata every day until Puja. For this we are thanking the Bangladesh government.”

Fisheries Quarantine Officer of Benapole Fisheries Office Mahbubur Rahman said: “Ilish export has started in India with the special permission of the government. In the last nine days, 600 tons and 440kg of ilish have gone to India through this port. 79 companies will finish exporting the remaining fish by October 30.”
