The government would take stern action against anyone who will try to destabilise the essentials market during the holy month of Ramadan.
The warning emerged from an inter-ministerial monitoring committee meeting at the Ministry of Commerce, with Additional Secretary ATM Mortuza Reza Chowdhury in the chair.
The meeting expected that the prices of essentials would remain stable during the month as production, import, stock and supply situation of the essential items remain normal.
The meeting was told that the ministry was monitoring the supply and price situation of rice, wheat, edible oil, sugar, pulses, gram, onion, garlic, ginger, tarmeric, dried chilli, eggs, dates and other essentials.
It was also informed at the meeting that the ministry has taken up all necessary measures so the prices of essentials do not go up, and advised the traders and others to remain alert so the market does not become abnormal.
