The Bank and Financial Institutions Division yesterday appointed the managing directors for state-run Janata Bank and Karmasangsthan Bank, a circular of the division said.
Bangladesh Krishi Bank Managing Director Md Abdus Salam has been appointed as the new MD of Janata Bank while Deputy Managing Director Obaidullah Al Masud of the state-run Agrani Bank nominated as the new Karmasangsthan Bank MD.
The post of MD for one of the largest state-owned Janata Bank lay vacant for quiet a long time.
The Bank and Financial Institutions Division (BFID) was, however, unable to appoint the MD of state-run Janata Bank that lacked its chairman as well as an effective search committee to pick up three individuals to finally choose one as MD.
Former Janata Bank chairman Abul Barakat completed his tenure last month.
Earlier in September, the government had appointed Karmasangsthan Bank managing director Khondoker Md Iqbal as MD to the financially troubled Basic Bank under the new rule of appointment of state bank MDs.
