Sadharan Bima Corporation (SBC), the lone state-owned non-life insurer, has handed over the profit of around Tk20 crore for the year 2013 to Finance Minister AMA Muhith.
Chairman of the board of directors of SBC Md Shamsul Alam yesterday handed the profit to the minister at his secretariat in the city.
The profit-handing ceremony was attended, among others, by the Bank and Financial Institutions Division Secretary, Aslam Alam, and Managing Director of SBC Md Rezaul Karim.
The Sadharan Bima Corporation has been contributing to the government exchequer for the last six years without any disruption, said Md Shamsul Alam while talking to the reporters.
“Our corporation is one of the sound financial insurance companies,” he also pointed out.
As asked, Shah Alam noted that being a governmental organisation if they didn't encourage them, this sector won't be able to expand.
SBC earned a net profit of Tk218 crore for the year 2013, which is Tk38 crore higher than that in previous year. The premium income of the corporation declined to Tk796 crore in 2013 from Tk800 crore in 2012.
Besides, the corporation paid Tk56 crore as income tax in 2013 while it was Tk41 crore in 2012.
