Finance Ministry dropped the issue of bank pay scales from discussion in the third meeting of pay and services commission.
So, the matter has been stuck again though the minister recently directed the banking division to expedite the implementation process.
The meeting sources said when the matter was raised by a commission member, finance minister stopped him saying “It is not right place to discuss about bank pay scales.”
Finance Minister is now in Washington DC to attend the spring meetings of World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
He is expected to return on April 23.
The government’s pay and services commission will give recommendation about pay scales of Bangladesh Bank and four state-owned commercial banks to prevent any clash.
Finance Secretary Fazle Kabir said he wanted to sit with the chairman pay and services commission Mohammad Farashuddin to avoid any legal complexity and any sort of clash between the different pay scales.
He also said after receiving opinion from the commission the finance division would soon hand over the matter to the authorities concerned for further steps.
On 24 November last year, the government constituted the eighth pay and services commission to formulate a new pay structure for public servants.
