Ahmed Shaheen joins Mercantile Bank as AMD

Renowned banker Ahmed Shaheen has joined Mercantile Bank PLC as additional managing director (AMD).

Prior to his new role, he served as additional managing director at Eastern Bank PLC (EBL), where he drove significant advancements in the bank. 

With a distinguished career spanning over 33 years in the Bangladesh banking industry, Ahmed Shaheen is widely recognized as a strategic leader and a pioneer in financial product innovation.

He began his banking journey in late 1992 as a probationary officer at IFIC Bank.

Over the years, he has successfully steered critical verticals, including international banking, corporate relationship units, and structured finance.

He also brought his expertise to Prime Bank Limited as deputy managing director and chief business officer from 2015 to 2016.

Ahmed Shaheen is a graduate of the University of Dhaka and did his post-graduation from AIUB.

He holds the Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) certification from the Institute of Financial Services, UK, and he is also a certified graduate in Finance of International Trade.

He works as a member of the Banking Commission of ICC Bangladesh.

Throughout his career, he played an instrumental role in bringing impactful changes in the banking industry especially in trade finance.

He’s joined Mercantile Bank as the bank pursues institutional modernization, comprehensive digital transformation, and robust risk governance.
