Bangladesh Bank has ordered limited transactions to be opened in specific bank branches on May 25 and 26 to facilitate the payment of salaries and bonuses to workers and employees working in the readymade garment (RMG) industry on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
According to the central bank's instructions, transactions can be made from 10am to 1pm in RMG-related bank branches in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Savar areas on those two days. Banks will remain open until 3 pm.
Bangladesh Bank said that this special measure has been taken to keep the financial activities of the garment sector normal during the Eid holidays and to ensure timely payment of salaries and bonuses to workers.
In addition, the instructions state that banks will be open regularly on May 23 (Saturday) and May 24 (Sunday).
After that, banking activities will be closed from May 25 to May 31 due to the Eid holidays.
Those concerned believe that as a result of this decision by the central bank, financial transactions in the RMG industry will remain somewhat normal before Eid.
