BB eases single customer credit limit for LPG import

Even if the single customer credit limit of a bank for importing LPG exceeds 25% of the total capital, there will be an opportunity to provide additional credit subject to the approval of Bangladesh Bank

Update : 26 Mar 2026, 03:28 PM

Bangladesh Bank has relaxed the single customer credit limit for importing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to deal with a potential crisis in energy supply due to the Iran war.

The central bank issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday and sent it to all banks in the country.

The notification said that even if the single customer credit limit of a bank for importing LPG exceeds 25% of the total capital, there will be an opportunity to provide additional credit subject to the approval of Bangladesh Bank.

However, the central bank will consider and approve the amount of credit that can be given to a specific institution separately.

Bangladesh Bank officials said that uncertainty has arisen in the international energy market due to the ongoing war situation surrounding Iran.

This decision has been taken to ensure that there is no obstacle in financing importers to keep LPG supply normal in the country.

However, this facility will be applicable only to LPG imports.

A senior central bank official said that no single customer will be allowed to exceed the 25% credit limit set for importing any other product.
