All scheduled banks in the country will be closed on December 31 (Wednesday) as a one-day government holiday has been declared on the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Bangladesh Bank has issued instructions in this regard.
The Department of Offsite Supervision (DOS) of Bangladesh Bank issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday (December 30).
It said that the government has declared a one-day government holiday on December 31 by executive order through the memorandum of the Ministry of Public Administration dated December 30.
In this context, all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh will be closed on that day.
However, the circular mentions that December 31 will also be considered a bank holiday.
At the same time, the branches or departments related to the annual and half-yearly accounts closing-2025 can be kept open at the discretion of the bank authorities, if necessary.
Bangladesh Bank has informed that the banks concerned will be able to adopt internal management as needed to ensure smooth account closing activities.
