Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Atiur Rahman on Saturday said the central bank had intensified its monitoring to ensure reaching of corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds of banks and financial institutions (FIs) to real beneficiaries.
The BB would also announce an amended policy soon to ensure more effective use of the CSR funds, he said while addressing a stipend distribution ceremony organised by Prime Bank Foundation in Dhaka, reports BSS. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prime Bank Md Nader Khan presided over the function.
Atiur said the direct expenditure of banks and financial institutions for CSR had been increased to Tk3.05bn from Tk550m over the last four years. The central bank had also intensified the financial inclusion initiatives to ensure credit flow for the SMEs and agriculture sectors, he added. The governor handed over stipends to a total of 394 poor but meritorious students at the function. Each student will get Tk2,400 monthly as stipend.
