Islami Bank removes 8 top officials

The decision to dismiss the officials came amid pressure from the other officials after the fall of the Awami League regime

Islami Bank Bangladesh has sacked eight of its top officials.

Of them, one is additional managing director and five are deputy managing directors while the rest two are heads of two departments of the bank, said a top IBBPLC executive, requesting anonymity.

The decision to dismiss the officials came amid pressure from the other officials after the fall of the Awami League regime.

The dismissed are Additional Managing Director JQM Habibullah, deputy managing directors Md Akiz Uddin, Mohammad Sabbir, Miftah Uddin, Md Rezaul Karim, Md Abdullah Al Mamun and Chief Anti Money Laundering Compliance Officer Taher Ahmed Chowdhury.

Islami Bank Training and Research Academy Principal Md Nazrul Islam has also been dismissed.

Protesters in the bank claim that S Alam Group, which they accuse of taking control of the bank with the previous government's support, has been hiring and promoting individuals without adhering to proper rules and regulations.

They allege that these actions have sidelined many long-serving employees.

The situation highlights ongoing discontent among the bank's employees, particularly those who feel they have been overlooked in favor of new recruits associated with S Alam Group.

Five people including four officials of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) PLC sustained bullet injuries in a clash between two groups of the bank in front of its head office in Motijheel area of Dhaka on August 11.
