Standard Chartered Bangladesh launched SC Cup in the presence of Liverpool Football Club’s (LFC) all-time top scorer Ian Rush.

The bank’s SC Cup -- a unique five-a-side football tournament -- will invite teams from Bangladesh’s top corporates to take part in a series of football matches.

The tournament will take place in October and will give teams the chance to compete for the opportunity to visit the hallowed grounds of Anfield, home to the Liverpool Football Club, and watch Liverpool in action.

This will be the sixth edition of the SC Cup tournament in Bangladesh.

During his first-ever visit to Bangladesh, LFC legend Ian Rush took the time to meet and mingle with fans.

He expressed his excitement about the SC Cup and encouraged all participants to do their best throughout the tournament.

Rush also spoke to local media about his illustrious career, today’s football scene, and more.

Naser Ezaz Bijoy, chief executive officer of Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, “Hosting Ian-- the man responsible for some of Liverpool’s greatest achievements -- is a distinct honour. I am extremely proud of our partnership with Liverpool FC, which enables us to work together to create unique, money-can’t-buy experiences such as this. I look forward to enjoying some friendly, but exciting, competition among corporate peers for the chance to travel to Anfield.”

“Ian was a role model for many -- respected by his teammates, opponents, managers, and fans alike. I am grateful to Ian for sharing his stories and insights -- and for inspiring all of us to aspire to greater heights, both on and off the pitch,” he added.

Over the years, Standard Chartered Bangladesh has hosted a total of five football tournaments.

Participating teams have embraced the love of the game, and in doing so, have challenged themselves, improved their football skills, and built new bonds with their colleagues and teammates.

Previous winners of the SC Cup include Grameenphone, Banglatrac, and Robi.

Standard Chartered began sponsoring Liverpool Football Club (LFC) in July of 2010.

In the last 13 years, the partnership has gone from strength to strength -- as a result of the many things Standard Chartered and LFC have in common.

For example, the Bank and LFC are both firmly rooted in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, and a huge majority of LFC’s 770 million followers are based in the very same markets which Standard Chartered calls home.

The relationship between Liverpool Football Club and Standard Chartered is slated to continue for 17 seasons overall, until the end of2026/27 football season.
