The Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday dismissed news of red-coloured Tk1,000 notes being scrapped as simply "rumours."
In a press release issued on the day, the central bank said that no one should pay heed to rumours on social media platforms such as Facebook about red Tk1,000 notes becoming invalid.
Earlier, talks about the note becoming obsolete after May 30 later this month was making rounds on Facebook, which was also covered by a few media outlets.
The Bangladesh Bank press release, signed by GM Abul Kalam Azad, general manager of its department of communications and publications, was issued soon after.
