About 1.24 crore people are beneficiaries of 12 stimulus packages, which are implemented through the country’s banking system, said Bangladesh Bank.
About 83% of the packages have already been disbursed, said the central bank press release, sent to the media on Monday.
The government first announced stimulus packages at the end of March last year, to help the affected people stay afloat and boost economic activities.
A total of 23 incentive packages worth Tk1, 28,303 crore have been announced so far, as per the BB press release.
The central bank also said that it was actively involved in disbursement of nine stimulus packages of the total 23 packages announced by the government.
The country’s banks disbursed Tk14,654 crore of the total Tk20,000 crore stimulus fund for the cottage, micro, small and medium enterprise (CMSME) sector, said Bangladesh Bank, adding that about 95,733 people are direct beneficiaries of the fund and 11 lakh people are indirect beneficiaries.
Till now, the lenders disbursed Tk3,954 crore from the Tk5,000 crore stimulus funds for the agricultural sector and about 2 lakh people are the direct beneficiaries of the fund, said BB.
Of the total 23 incentive packages, Tk30,000 crore was stimulus package for large industries; Tk20,000 crore for CMSMEs; Tk5,000 crore as pre-shipment credit refinance scheme; Tk5,000 crore for agriculture sector, and more.
The central bank also said that the government provided Tk5,000 crore as three months' salary-allowance for garment workers, which benefitted about 38 lakh people.
Tk1,390 crore was also provided as the interest subsidy against the suspension of instalments of loans in the month of April and May last year, which benefitted about 73 lakh people, as per the press release.
