The Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Tuesday asked scheduled banks to keep their branches, located in industrial areas housing garment factories, open on Friday, July 31.

The instruction is aimed at facilitating the payment of salaries and bonuses of workers on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Azha.

Banks were asked to remain open from 10am to 1pm and transactions will be made from 10am to 12pm on the day, as stated in a notice of the BB.

The clearing department of the BB will also remain open from 10am to 12pm next Friday.

The branches of the banks in garment industrial areas like Dhaka Metropolitan, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chittagong areas must be  kept open, adds the BB notice.

In another circular, the BB asked banks to keep open their branches near Dhaka North and South City Corporation cattle markets from 10 am to 8pm on Thursday and Saturday.

The banks were also advised to set up temporary banking booths at cattle markets, says the BB circular.

The instructions were given considering the security of financial transactions in cattle markets, said a high official of the BB.
