Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Thursday asked mobile financial service (MFS) providers to ensure uninterrupted services to five million distressed households who will be provided one off cash assistance of Tk2,500 each.
All MFS providers have been asked to keep their own systems, distribution and agent channels functional, while ensuring enough cash at all their agent points.
In order to provide cash assistance, the central bank instructed MFS providers to take necessary steps on opening mobile financial accounts by verifying the national identity cards of beneficiaries prepared by the finance ministry.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday inaugurated the disbursement of Tk1,250 crore cash assistance programme for five million poor families hit hard by the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the disbursement through a video conference at her official residence Ganabhaban.
The total fund will be distributed among the five million families through MFSs such as bKash, Rocket, Nagad and SureCash.
On the same day, the finance division under the finance ministry released Tk1,257 crore for the cash assistance.
