Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Thursday slashed the cash withdrawal fees for workers who will be getting their salaries under the Tk5,000 crore refinancing scheme through mobile financial service (MFS).
Workers will have to pay only Tk4 against the withdrawal of every one thousand Taka.
MFS operators usually charge between Tk14.5 and Tk18 for cash-out of Tk 1,000.
The central bank issued a circular in this regard, instructing all MFS operators to only apply cost recovery policy and even implement subsidies in some cases for the workers at export-oriented sector against their withdrawal of salaries.
An official of the central bank said that the reduced cash-out fee would be a relief for workers considering the high transaction charge of MFS.
On March 25, the government announced a Tk 5,000 crore package for the payment of salaries of the workers employed in the export-oriented industries.
Last Monday, the government released Tk2,000 crore out of the Tk5,000 crore refinance scheme.
Earlier this month, the central bank asked all the concerned parties including the banks, MFS operators and the concerned industries to open bank or MFS accounts of the workers by April 20 for the disbursement of salaries.
In line with the instruction, around 24 lakh MFS accounts were created for the workers of several export-oriented industries for the disbursement of salaries.
