BB: On duty bankers to get special health insurance

The officials and employees, who would remain present in their workplaces and carry out their duties during the holidays, would be eligible for the health insurance coverage

Banks’ staffers will come under special health insurance coverage for their duties during general holidays announced by the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. 

The officials and employees, who would remain present in their workplaces and carry out their duties during the holidays, would be eligible for the health insurance coverage, according to a notice issued by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Wednesday.

If any bank staff is attacked by Covid-19 during his duties, he or she will get a sum between Tk5 lakh and Tk10 lakh as health insurance under the special health insurance coverage. 

The affected bank staffers must be paid with the insurance money by 15 days after being contracted the coronavirus, as per the notice. 

Respective banks would bear the cost of insurances for their staff, clarified the BB.

Besides, if bankers are infected with the virus, the employing banks would bear the entire cost of their treatment, added the BB.

If any bank official or employee dies of the virus, his or her family will be paid five times sum of the insurance money which could not be adjusted with any other liabilities of the victim bank official, according to BB notice.

The special health insurance coverage will be counted from the first day of the general holidays and it would continue next for 30 days when the holidays end.
