Akkas Uddin Mollah has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of the Board of Directors of Shahjalal Islami Bank Ltd (SJIBL).
Apart from him, Khandoker Sakib Ahmed and Mohammed Golam Quddus were also re-elected as vice-chairmen, respectively, at a board meeting held last Thursday, said a press release from the bank issued on Sunday.
Akkas also serves as the chairman and managing director a number of companies and industries, including Russel Spinning Mills Ltd, Russel Garments Ltd, Ekram Sweaters Ltd, Shahan Colours Ltd and Tania Cotton Mills.
An eminent industrialist and social worker, Akkas is the chairman of Osman Memorial Hospital and Osmania Madrasah too.
Khandoker Sakib, a Sponsor Shareholder and director of SJIBL, is the managing director of Zuairia Group and involved in other industries.
He is also director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Securities Ltd, and a sponsor of Shahjalal Islami Bank Securities Limited.
Golam Quddus is a director of the bank who also represents Anwer Khan Modern Hospital Ltd.
After starting his career as an assistant commissioner in the Ministry of Public Administration, Golam went on to serve other ministries as a secretary and later as a member of Privatization Commission.
