Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said the activities of Grameen Bank have become more consolidated than before.
He said: “The board of Grameen Bank will be reconstituted within a short time.”
The finance minister made the comment while talking to reporters during the Grameen Bank’s dividend-paying ceremony at the Finance Ministry auditorium on Sunday.
Grameen Bank Managing Director Ratan Kumar Nag handed over the dividend worth Tk6.17 crore to the finance minister for the year 2016.
The minister said the election for the bank’s board of directors will be held immediately.
Muhith pointed out that the election has been delayed due to cases filed by Prof Muhammad Yunus and his supporters against the election.
He also noted that the microcredit organisation has made more profit from small entrepreneurs than its other clients and it is an indication of a big social change in the rural areas.
