Update : 21 Dec 2017, 10:58 PM
Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said that the founders of the Farmers Bank Limited are the ones responsible for its failure. “The ones who founded this bank (Farmers Bank)... those promoter directors are the ones who ruined the bank through pilferage,” he told reporters after inaugurating the 43rd branch of Bangladesh Development Bank Corporation (BDBL) at Islampur, Sylhet, on Thursday afternoon.

The finance minister, however, said that the bank will not be shut down in any way. “In Bangladesh, there is no track record of a bank collapse. This is not allowed to happen.” Responding to a query on customer complaints that they were not being able to withdraw their deposits from  Farmers Bank, Muhith said Bangladesh Bank had already looked into the matter and would take the necessary decision soon.
