Local ICT industry giants awarded

Finance Minister AMA Muhith handed out the awards as the chief guest at the Daily Star ICT Awards ceremony held at the Le Meridien hotel in Dhaka on Friday. The Daily Star and the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (Basis) honoured four individuals — Mahboob Zaman, chairman of DataSoft, Late Abu Yousuf Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, founder of IBCS-Primax Software (Bangladesh) Ltd, Syed Farhad Ahmed, managing director of Aamra Group of Companies, and Ziaur Rahman, chief executive officer of TigerIT Bangladesh Ltd, and four firms — ServicEngineBPO, Information Technology Consultants Ltd, Bdjobs.com Ltd and Hungrynaki.com. Speaking at the event, finance minister said: “The government has made the ICT sector participatory. We have achieved success in the sector.” Muhith said ICT revolution surpassed all previous revolutions in human civilisation. “The most important element of the ICT revolution was that it was democratic, widespread and participatory,” he said. Basis President Mustafa Jabbar and The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, among others, also spoke at the event.
