Bangladesh’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth surged to 4.60% in the final quarter (April–June) of FY26, up significantly from 2.05% recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

According to the latest quarterly estimates released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), this economic acceleration was primarily fueled by a strong turnaround in the industrial sector.

At current prices, the quarterly GDP size reached Tk1,611,700 crore, compared to Tk1,438,500 crore in the fourth quarter of FY25.

On an annual consolidated basis across all four quarters, overall GDP growth for FY26 stood at 3.68%.

A sector-wise analysis on a point-to-point basis at constant prices reveals a powerful rebound in the industrial sector, which expanded by 6.52% in the fourth quarter compared to just 0.92% in the corresponding period of FY25.

The manufacturing sub-sector served as the chief growth driver within industry, delivering an 8.66% expansion.

The services sector also saw improved performance, growing by 4.28% compared to 2.26% in the same quarter of the prior year.

Conversely, the agriculture sector slowed down, recording a growth rate of 1.73% in the April–June 2026 quarter, down from 3.19% in the fourth quarter of FY25.

BBS data shows that GDP growth rates for the first three quarters of FY26 were estimated at 4.96%, 3.03%, and 2.22% respectively, compared to 3.91%, 3.53%, and 4.53% during the same quarters of FY25.

The statistical bureau has been regularly compiling and publishing quarterly GDP estimates using the production method since the first quarter of FY24 to align with international standards and assist in tracking short-term economic trends, policy formulation, and national planning.
