Md Fazlul Hoque, former president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), has officially taken charge as the administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the country's apex business organization.
He assumed the responsibility of administrator on Sunday (August 2).
According to a press release issued on the same day, he joined as the FBCCI administrator following an office order issued by the Ministry of Commerce on July 26.
Earlier, through an office order issued on July 26 by the Trade Organization-1 branch of the Ministry of Commerce, Md Fazlul Hoque was appointed as the administrator of FBCCI under Section 17 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022.
The government order stated that he was given the charge of administrator to maintain the continuity of FBCCI's activities and in the interest of the country's industry and trade.
Following his assumption of duty, he will organize a fair and impartial election within the next 120 days by adhering to the Trade Organizations Act, 2022; Trade Organization Rules, 2025; Companies Act, 1994; and the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the organization.
Upon completion of the election, he must hand over charge to the elected committee and inform the Ministry of Commerce.
Previously, Md Abdur Rahim Khan, former additional secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, served as the administrator of FBCCI.
He was relieved of his duties on June 27.
Md Fazlul Hoque is a well-known entrepreneur in the country's readymade garment (RMG) industry.
He is a former president of BKMEA and managing director of Plummy Fashions Limited, a leading eco-friendly garment manufacturer.
For a long time, he has been playing an active role in various matters related to the RMG industry, export trade, industrial policy, and business and commerce.
