Newly-appointed chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Ahsan Habib called on the officers and employees of the revenue administration to perform their duties with honesty, transparency, sincerity and dedication.
He also said that if everyone works together responsibly, it is possible to achieve the ambitious revenue collection target for FY27.
He said these while exchanging views with journalists after formally assuming office as the chairman at the NBR headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka on Tuesday (June 30).
Habib said that if every officer of the revenue administration performs his duties with honesty, dedication and hard work, then the revenue targets set by the government can be achieved.
At the same time, he also emphasized on everyone working together to build a taxpayer-friendly, transparent and accountable revenue system.
Before assuming office, he was welcomed by senior officials and employees of the organization with flowers when he reached the NBR office.
Later, he exchanged views with the officials and gave necessary directions to make the revenue administration activities more dynamic, efficient and service-oriented.
The change in the leadership of the NBR came at a time when FY27 is just starting.
The revenue collection target set by the government for the new fiscal year is about 40% higher than the target of the outgoing FY26.
According to economists and revenue analysts, such a high revenue growth target has never been set before in the history of the country.
As a result, special emphasis will have to be given to increasing the efficiency of the tax administration, expanding the tax coverage, preventing tax evasion, expanding digital services and increasing the trust of taxpayers.
