Md Sarwar Hossain new BB deputy governor

The government has appointed Bangladesh Bank executive director Md Sarwar Hossain as the new deputy governor of the central bank.

He has been appointed on a contractual basis for three years on the condition of voluntary retirement from his current post and suspension of post-retirement leave (PRL).

A notification in this regard was issued by the Central Bank Branch of the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday (June 30).

The notification said that in accordance with Article 10(4) of the Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972, Md Sarwar Hossain has been appointed as the deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank on a contractual basis for three years from the date of joining.

Other terms of his appointment will be determined through a separate contract.

The government said that the order issued in the public interest will come into effect immediately.

Currently, Md Sarwar Hossain is serving as the executive director of Bangladesh Bank. With his appointment as deputy governor, he has joined the top management team of the central bank.
