Representing Bangladesh on a global stage, Md Sabur Khan, chairman of Daffodil International University (DIU), participated as a distinguished session speaker at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026, being held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in the session titled “Driving Change: How South Asian Higher Education Powers the SDGs.”
In his remarks, Khan emphasized on some of the most pressing challenges facing South Asia, including youth employability, climate resilience, and equitable access to quality education and opportunities.
He highlighted the critical role of universities in developing future-ready graduates, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, generating impactful research, and building meaningful partnerships that contribute to sustainable development.
Addressing the question of how institutions in the region advance the SDGs despite resource constraints, Khan highlighted the importance of visionary leadership, institutional commitment, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration.
He noted that universities can create significant societal impact when sustainability is embedded across teaching, research, campus operations, and community engagement.
As part of the session, Dr. Khan also shared Daffodil International University’s experiences and contributions to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
He highlighted DIU’s efforts in expanding access to quality education, promoting entrepreneurship and digital innovation, strengthening international partnerships, and advancing sustainability initiatives that have earned global recognition through leading international assessments and rankings.
The session provided an important platform for exchanging perspectives on how higher education institutions can accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals and contribute to a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future.
