Update : 13 Jun 2026, 12:52 PM

To celebrate Bengal's rich folk music heritage, introduce its timeless traditions to contemporary audiences, and celebrate World Music Day, MW Magazine Bangladesh, in partnership with Maya, the natural wellness brand of Square Toiletries Limited, organized MAYA “Songs of Bengal: Pran Bondher Sone” on Friday at Aloki Convention Centre.

The event paid tribute to Dewan Hason Raja, one of the most influential mystic poets and lyricists in Bengali folk music.

More than a century after his lifetime, his songs continue to resonate with audiences through their exploration of spirituality, self-discovery, love, detachment, and the search for meaning.

One of the program's primary goals has been to present Bengal's folk traditions in a contemporary format while fostering a meaningful connection between cultural heritage and younger generations.

Through music, storytelling, and artistic interpretation, the event sought to demonstrate the continued relevance of Hason Raja's work in today's world.

The evening was curated and musically directed by renowned singer, composer, and music director Shayan Chowdhury Arnob.

Under his artistic direction, Hason Raja's songs were reimagined through contemporary musical arrangements while preserving their original spirit and philosophical depth.

A distinguished lineup of artists performed some of the poet's most celebrated compositions, offering audiences a fresh perspective on a familiar legacy.

Throughout the program, attendees were taken on a journey through the landscapes, philosophies, and cultural traditions that shaped Hason Raja's work.

The performances highlighted themes of mysticism, self-reflection, the "moner manush" or inner self, and the unique cultural environment of the haor region that profoundly influenced his writing.

In her welcome address, Rumana Chowdhury, editor and publisher of MW Magazine Bangladesh, emphasized the importance of making cultural heritage accessible to new audiences.

"Since its inception, MW has believed that culture is not something to be preserved only in its original form. It must also be reinterpreted, experienced, and shared with new generations," she said. "This event is an expression of that belief."

She also noted that MW's cultural initiatives have consistently sought to create spaces where literature, music, art, and heritage can engage contemporary audiences in meaningful ways.

She equally acknowledged the continued support of Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Toiletries Limited, for cultural and creative initiatives.

Malik Mohammed Sayeed, CEO of Square Toiletries Limited, highlighted the significance of preserving and celebrating Bangladesh's cultural traditions.

He remarked that initiatives such as Songs of Bengal provide valuable opportunities for younger generations to rediscover the country's musical heritage and reaffirmed Maya's commitment to supporting art, culture, and creative expression.

The program was supported by Square Toiletries Limited and reflected Maya's ongoing association with initiatives that celebrate nature, culture, and heritage. Sun Communications Limited served as the Communications Partner for the event.

On the occasion of World Music Day, MW Bangladesh presents MAYA ‘Songs of Bengal: Pran Bondher Sone,’ will be broadcast on Maasranga Television on June 21, 2026 at 8:30 PM.
