Private-sector employees covered under the universal pension fund will receive 30 percent of their total accumulated savings as gratuity or annuity upon retirement, according to the proposed 2026–27 budget.
The provision was mentioned in the budget speech on Thursday as part of the government’s broader social security programme.
For the 2026–27 fiscal year, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury proposed an allocation of Tk 1,44,338 crore for the social security sector. In the revised budget for FY2025–26, the allocation stood at Tk 1,26,731 crore.
The increase reflects the government’s continued emphasis on expanding social protection coverage and strengthening welfare programmes for vulnerable groups.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury unveiled the proposed national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year in parliament on Thursday.
The proposed budget, the first under the current government, has an outlay of Tk 938,000 crore.
