The government has proposed an allocation of Tk5,196 crore for the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in the 2026–27 fiscal year budget, a decrease of Tk175 crore from the revised allocation of Tk5,371 crore in FY2025–26.
However, the allocation remains higher than the Tk4,630 crore earmarked in FY2014.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury placed the proposal Thursday while presenting the national budget in parliament, which totals Tk938,000 crore.
He said women’s empowerment remains a key development indicator, adding that the government is implementing various programs to ensure women’s self-reliance through modern education, healthcare and employment opportunities, alongside child welfare measures.
The minister said 20 modern daycare centers will be established in the first phase for working women, followed by 60 more in a second phase. He added that initiatives are underway to support the rehabilitation and social protection of returning women migrant workers.
Under the Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) program, 1.04 million women are currently receiving 30 kilograms of rice per month, he said.
He also said quick response teams are being strengthened to ensure prompt action against violence targeting women and children, while rehabilitation programs for street children and children at risk are continuing. According to the budget statement, 33 integrated child rehabilitation centers are operating in 17 districts to provide protection and support to disadvantaged and vulnerable children.
